# Tron

> What a Trustodian Tron wallet is, why it is not your Ethereum key, and importing into TronLink

```
m/44'/195'/0'/0/{index}
```

BIP-44 on secp256k1, coin type 195. Addresses are base58 and begin with `T`.

## The index

`{index}` is the address leaf, so all your Tron wallets sit under one account, `m/44'/195'/0'`.

| Trustodian Tron wallet | Path |
| :- | :- |
| 1st | `m/44'/195'/0'/0/0` |
| 2nd | `m/44'/195'/0'/0/1` |
| 3rd | `m/44'/195'/0'/0/2` |

> [!WARNING]
>
> A Tron key is the same kind of key as an Ethereum one, secp256k1, with the address derived from the
> public key in much the same way and then encoded differently. That similarity is a trap: your Tron
> wallet and your EVM wallet are **not** the same key, because the coin type differs (195 against 60).
> Converting an Ethereum address to Tron format will not give you your Tron wallet.

## TronLink

**1. Install TronLink from tronlink.org**

Type the domain yourself. TronLink ships as a browser extension and as a mobile app.

**2. Import a wallet using the mnemonic phrase**

TronLink imports from a mnemonic phrase, a private key or a keystore file. Choose the mnemonic
option and enter the words in order.

**3. Set a local password**

New, local to the device, unrelated to anything in Trustodian.

**4. Compare the address**

The first account is index 0. Match it against your first Trustodian Tron wallet before looking at
balances.

**5. Add accounts for further wallets**

Adding an account under the same imported phrase walks up the address index. Do not expect a
derivation path field: TronLink's ordinary import uses the standard path and does not ask. If a
tool does offer one, `m/44'/195'/0'/0/{index}` is the value.

## Fees

Tron charges for transactions in bandwidth and energy, which are either staked for or paid in TRX. A
wallet holding only TRC-20 tokens and no TRX cannot send them. If you are recovering a token balance,
send a small amount of TRX to the address first.

## Verifying

Compare the address against your Trustodian Tron wallet before trusting the balance. See
[Troubleshooting](https://trustodian-recovery.mintlify.site/troubleshooting.md).

## Vaults

A Tron vault is built from the account's own **permission structure**: an owner permission and an
active permission, each listing the owners with a threshold. That configuration lives on the chain,
so nothing has to be rebuilt. Your [Recovery Kit](https://trustodian-recovery.mintlify.site/recovery-kit.md) records the vault's account address,
so you do not have to remember it.

The procedure is on [Tron vaults](https://trustodian-recovery.mintlify.site/tron-vault.md). See also [How vaults recover](https://trustodian-recovery.mintlify.site/vaults.md).
