# Eternl

> Restoring Trustodian Cardano wallets in Eternl, including a second and third account

Eternl is the recommended Cardano target because it handles multiple accounts. Every Trustodian
Cardano wallet after the first is a separate CIP-1852 account, and most Cardano wallets restore
account 0 only. What you are recovering, and why, is on [Cardano](https://trustodian-recovery.mintlify.site/cardano.md).

```
m/1852'/1815'/{index}'/0/0
```

**1. Install Eternl from eternl.io**

Type the domain yourself. Eternl runs as a browser extension and as a web app; prefer the
extension.

**2. Restore a wallet rather than creating one**

Eternl's add-wallet flow offers **Restore Wallet**. Choose the standard software wallet type, not
a hardware or a paper wallet option, and enter the words in order.

**3. Enter the passphrase if one was set**

If the account has a passphrase, supply it where the restore flow offers a passphrase or
additional-word field. It is separate from the local spending password Eternl asks you to set.

**4. Compare the first address**

The restored wallet is account 0. Match its first receive address against your first Trustodian
Cardano wallet before going further.

**5. Add accounts for your other Cardano wallets**

Eternl holds several accounts under one restored phrase and calls them accounts. Add account 1 for
your second Trustodian Cardano wallet, account 2 for your third, and so on. Each appears with its
own address, its own balance and its own stake key.

> [!WARNING]
>
> If a restore offers a choice of master-key scheme, usually phrased as whether the phrase came from a
> hardware device, choose the software or **Icarus** option. The Ledger scheme derives different
> addresses from the same words on the same path. See [Cardano](https://trustodian-recovery.mintlify.site/cardano.md#icarus-not-ledger).

## Staking

Each restored account carries its own stake key and can delegate independently. Delegation is not
part of recovery and nothing needs to be restored for it, but a newly restored wallet shows as
undelegated until you delegate it again. Rewards already accumulated remain claimable at the same
address.

## Vaults

Eternl will not import a Trustodian Cardano vault. A vault is a native script under CIP-1854, and
recovering one means `cardano-cli`. See [Cardano vaults](https://trustodian-recovery.mintlify.site/cardano-vault.md).

## If something does not match

See [Troubleshooting](https://trustodian-recovery.mintlify.site/troubleshooting.md). On Cardano the two usual causes are the wallet showing only
account 0, and the Ledger master-key scheme.
