The Recovery Kit is a file you download from Trustodian that describes your whole account: every vault you own and every single-signature wallet you hold. It contains no keys and no phrase. Nothing in it can move money on its own, and losing it does not lose funds — except for Bitcoin and Cardano vaults, whose configuration exists nowhere else.

Getting it

Open any vault in Trustodian, choose Download recovery kit, then Download recovery kit — every vault. You get a JSON file and, optionally, a printable version with the same content laid out one vault per page. For a Bitcoin or Cardano vault you can also export just that vault’s descriptor or script files, in the format the external wallet expects.
The kit describes the account as it stood when you pressed the button. See When to download it again.

What is inside

One entry per vault, on all six networks, with its address, threshold and owners. For Bitcoin and Cardano the entry also carries the script material that turns those owners into the vault address. That material is on no blockchain and is the reason the kit exists. For EVM, Solana, Tron and XRP the entry records where to point a tool, not material to rebuild from. See How vaults recover.
Every wallet you hold, with its address, network, derivation path, and — in the column marked Recovered by — whether your recovery phrase reproduces it.These wallets are not backed up by the kit. They come back from the phrase. The list exists so that after a restore you can tell which wallets should have reappeared. See Wallets the phrase does not cover.
If a vault could not be read, it is named in the kit rather than silently omitted, with the reason and whether downloading again would help.A vault created before external recovery was supported is a permanent refusal: it still works in Trustodian, but nothing in the kit recovers it and a fresh download will not add it.

Wallets the phrase does not cover

The wallet list is the only place that tells you a wallet will not survive a restore. A wallet you imported by private key is marked NOT your recovery phrase — see What the phrase does not cover for why.
Restoring your phrase in a third-party wallet rebuilds every other wallet and leaves these behind, with no error and no hint that they are missing. Recover each one from wherever its key came from, or move its funds to a wallet the phrase does derive.
If the account’s phrase has ever been replaced, each wallet also carries the identifier of the seed it came from, so you can tell which of your phrases recovers it.

How secret is it

Not secret, but the only copy

Vault addresses, owner addresses, thresholds, and the Bitcoin and Cardano script material. None of it can move money by itself.Secrecy is not the risk here — loss is. For a Bitcoin or Cardano vault this file holds the only copy of what turns your keys into the vault address.

Never in the kit

Your recovery phrase, your passphrase and your private keys are not in the file and never will be.Anything claiming to be a Recovery Kit that contains a phrase did not come from Trustodian.
So keep more than one copy, and keep them wherever your recovery phrase is not. The kit alone moves nothing, and the phrase alone cannot reach a Bitcoin or Cardano vault — but whoever holds both has everything.

When to download it again

1

After creating a vault

The kit covers only the vaults that existed when it was made.
2

After adding a wallet you mean to keep

So the wallet list still matches reality, and a wallet the phrase cannot reproduce is on it.
3

If a vault was listed as not exported

Unless the reason says a fresh download will not help.
